Peru Trip Serves Children, Offers Free Medical Clinic, Addiction/Counseling Training
Our Peru Team is safely stateside again! They traveled to serve with our ministry partners, RiverWind, directed by Dick and Ruth Hidalgo Robinson in Pucallpa, Peru. For this trip, our CTR volunteers worked with another volunteer team from Puerto Rico.
Together, the combined team offered a free 5-day medical clinic, serving just under 1,200 people. Several team members already had experience volunteering for global medical catastrophes, which provided some expertise in setting up the mobile short-term clinic. In addition to providing help physically through medical care and medication, the team offered spiritual care by praying with people who desired it.
Christ The Rock also asked Dr. Frank Cummings, a Fox Valley psychologist, to be part of this trip. Dr. Cummings has taught internationally about counseling and addiction, and shared his expertise to equip pastors and counselors in Pucallpa. He also traveled up the Ucayali River to teach at RiverWind’s Training Center for local and indigenous pastors.
Other team members worked with children, leading a week of Vacation Bible School (or Escuala Biblica de Vacaciones, as it’s called in Peru) in the district of Tahuania. More than 480 children attended! It was a week of discipleship and pure joy, as children learned about God’s great love for them. The program will continue after the team leaves, offered by indigenous churches and leaders in the villages there.
We are so very grateful for this team — they used vacation days to be part of this trip, and served with the kind of love that points to Jesus. And we deeply appreciate Dick and Ruth Hidalgo Robinson, who share the Gospel and train indigenous pastors all year long in the Amazon River Basin. We are also thankful for everyone here at Christ The Rock, whose consistent generosity toward ministry made this trip possible.
