Purpose. Direction. Calling. These words stir something within us. Most of us want to know that our life matters, and we long to make an impact. But how do we find meaning in this life? How do we know what our life should be about? What if Jesus has a calling waiting for you to embrace—a calling that brings meaning and opportunity for eternal impact to your everyday life? In this message we will learn about the call of Jesus on all of our lives.
Deep down inside of us, everyone has this sense we’re called to something bigger – that we were made for a purpose greater than ourselves. Everyone feels this desire for their life to make a difference, because God put this desire inside each of us. We’re made in the image of God – which means we’re made in the image of greatness. We’re not meant to live lives of quiet desperation…but that’s what so many experience. When Christ came into the world, he did more than come to save sinners. Jesus came to teach us a way of life meant to save us from quiet desperation. The purpose Jesus called us to is summarized in the first encounter Jesus had in calling His disciples: “While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him.” Matthew 4:18-20 (NIV)
