Why Lent? Why would a church even participate in something like Lent? Lent has the power to transform the way we live our lives—if we approach it with the right heart. We must learn what it means to truly deny ourselves if we want to experience the filling that comes when we do. In this message, we look at the power of fasting, and how it helps us experience Lent for all its worth.
Our next series will look at the symbol and practices of the season of Lent. Lent is a fixed amount of time set aside to focus on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. It's an invitation to interrupt our daily rhythms to symbolically follow Jesus into the wilderness. Lent is a call to fasting and self-denial, though not for the sake of denial itself. It is a period to empty ourselves of lesser things so that we might be filled with the greater things of the gospel.
