The title of this message is, "If it pleases The King". We will dig deeper into the "Esther" story. We will see that even after Haman was hung on his own gallows, which he had made for Mordecai, the decree that Haman had made was still in motion and could not be reversed. So in brokenness and tears Esther approaches King Xerxes and says, “If it pleases the king…”. She then makes a bold request. God softens his heart and grants her a part of her request and more of the sovereign plan of God unfolds in this story. So we come before Jesus and we say, “If it pleases The King…” What really matters to us is that we "please The King". We will look at what God uses to bring us to that place of humble dependence upon Him. We will also look at how God uses suffering and pain to prepare us for what He has for us next.
The book of Esther recounts the story of the Jewish people near the end of their exile, while facing the threat of extermination. Esther is the Persian name for the Jewish woman Hadassah. Esther is one of only two books in the Bible where the Name of God is not mentioned, yet God’s sovereignty and providence are incredibly woven through it.
