The church of Macedonia didn't give out of compulsion, but rather out of joy, and even when it made no rational sense to give in their state of poverty. But when we understand what grace means (2 Corinthians 8:9), it makes complete sense. Giving time, talents and treasures out of our joy, to thank our God for the gifts of grace and salvation--that's living a surrendered life. And Paul promised the church at Corinth that when we live that way, we'll be overwhelmed by God's generosity (2 Corinthians 9:8).
Romans 12:2 tells us: "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
