A total of 550 volunteers from Christ The Rock, other churches, and our Fox Valley community prepared, delivered and served 3,400 meals for this year’s Free Community Thanksgiving Meal! With your help and generosity, people who would otherwise have spent the day alone or without food felt loved and cared for, and experienced a little bit of God’s heart for them.
By the end of Thanksgiving Day, 2.800 meals had been delivered to homes and apartments across the Fox Valley, and another 600 people came to The Grand Meridian in Appleton for a warm meal and friendly company.
Each person’s story is unique. Some of our delivery recipients were patients in cancer treatment, who need to avoid a crowd. Several called and told our phone answerers that they used to volunteer for the Thanksgiving Meal themselves, but were now in a position to need a meal delivered. Another home deliver caller said she was widowed and had lost her son recently, and our meal delivery was making his family’s first Thanksgiving without their Dad and husband a little easier. At the in person meal, there were quite a few veterans wearing caps and jackets listing their branch of the service, and many who lived alone or needed a little boost during a challenging circumstance. God knows each of them by name, and graciously let us touch their lives and remind them that they’re seen and loved.
And it blesses all of us just as much as the recipients! We are very grateful for each person who gave generously and volunteered, and for the local companies and foundations who donated and funded the meal. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to this year’s Community Partners:
