Current Conditions in Haiti

  • Half of the population faces starvation.
  • 75% of Haitians live on less than $2 a day, half live on less than $1 per day.
  • One-third of infants are born underweight. Acute and chronic under-nutrition among children and pregnant women is severe.
  • The unemployment rate is close to 80 percent.
  • The annual expenditure on healthcare per person is $54 (compared to $4,499 in the U.S.).
  • There are over 163,000 AIDS orphans in the country.
  • One-third of children die before their 5th birthday.

Christ The Rock's Involvement

  • Medical team trips provide primary medical care to the people of Hinche. Hundreds of people suffering from a wide range of ailments are seen during these trips, which happen twice a year.
  • Both medical professionals and non-medical individuals are invited to participate by serving in orphanages and building relationships in various villages.
